Welcome to the South Bay Camera Club

Welcome to South Bay Camera Club! We are a well-established, active club of photographers spanning all ages and skill levels. We offer a fun mix of opportunities, ways to participate and learn the Art of Photography.

Our meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of every month except the months of December and June (no second meeting those months).  Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and conclude by 9:00 p.m.

In Person SBCC club meetings have been opened at the Torrance airport. For the convenience of those who wish to remain isolated, we will also be on Zoom. *

 * As of August 14,2023, Print Evaluation Meetings are now in-person only. For year 2025 – January 13th, and March 10th.

We are looking forward to getting together again to socialize.

Photo and Framing Requirements

  • Photo Size can be 8”x10” up to 18”x 24”.
  • Photos may be borderless or matted.
  • Black frames are required. The library’s hanging system cables attach to a wire strung between eyelets on each side of the frame. The hanging cables can accommodate 60 lb. The frames need to be wide enough to accommodate screwing an eyelet into the frame approximately one-third of the way from the top on both sides.

2025 Scavenger Hunt

Guidelines:  

  1. Only SBCC members may participate.
  2. Photos must be taken from April 2024 thru May 2025
  3. Open editing.
  4. Originals may be digital, film or slides – converted to digital files.
  5. All entries must be sized to 1020 pixels on the longest side.
  6. All entries must be labeled:  number_ subject_yourname.jpg
  7. (Example: 05-insect-robinyoung.jpg).
  8. Submit on a CD, Thumb Drive, or email to robinyoung7@hotmail.com (subject: Scavenger Hunt)
  9. All entries must be submitted to Robin Young by the April 28, 2025, meeting.
  10. No Late entries will be accepted.
  11. Presentation will be at the SBCC meeting on May 12, 2025.

Judging Criteria:

1-10 total points for each photo based on the following:

  1. Does it fit the subject? (value = 0-2 points)
  2. Is it exposed and composed well? (value = 0-2 points)
  3. Is the focus depth and sharpest area used effectively? (value = 0-2 points)
  4. Does the light fall in an interesting way? (value = 0-2 points)
  5. Does the image evoke an emotion and/or have an impact? (value = 0-2 points

The judge(s) may discuss the reasoning for the points given.

The judge(s) may not speak to the photographer until after all the entries are judged and the photographer is revealed.

Only Members may enter the evaluations. Guests are welcome to all meetings, so please come view our outstanding photographs.

Membership is only $72.50 per year (Aug. thru June), $50 (Jan. thru June). Membership includes two meetings per month, (except Dec., June and July), digital and print evaluations many months, field trips, and two annual banquets (banquet costs not included). Join us soon!
